Temple SamuEl Or Olom, located in Sabal Chase in West Kendall (Miami-Dade County), is an egalitarian synagogue affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.  It offers something for all ages: Play ‘N Learn preschool (successfully led for many years by Lynn Zusman), Sunday School, Religious School, bar/bat mitzvah training (including for adults), Judaica High School, confirmation, weddings, adult education (including successful Hebrew literacy classes run by the Men’s Club), and conversion classes.  Social events have included art auctions, automobile raffles, dinners, dances, musical programs, movie nights, USY talent shows, and our New Year’s Eve party.   Rabbi David Schonblum led exciting summer congregational trips to Israel in 2005 and 2006.  We have active Kid’s Club, Kadima, USY, Sisterhood, and Men’s Club.  Please click on the links to the left for additional information.

Religious services are held Friday nights at 6:30 P.M. the first two Fridays of the month and 8:00 P.M. the remaining Fridays, Saturday mornings at 9:30 a. m., and Monday thru Thursday evenings at 7:30 p. m.  Rabbi Schonblum teaches us the deeper meaning of the Torah, and Cantor Ronit Rubin, with her beautiful voice, intersperses traditional and new melodies for the prayers; she also directs our religious school, bar/bat mitzvah training, and choir.  We have had a variety of guest speakers at services.  Congregants are encouraged to take part in leading the services and to learn and chant Torah and Haftorah readings.  We conduct periodic multilingual–Hebrew, English, Spanish, Yiddish, Ladino, Greek–Friday night services, and persons who are not fluent in English feel at home in our multilingual congregation.  Sisterhood and Men’s Club each lead special Friday night services twice a year.  Over the summer we have Friday night theme Shabbats, including ones led by members of the legal, medical, and financial services professions, early Musical Shabbat services, and the ever-popular Chocolate Lovers Shabbat.  We observe S’lichot, Rosh Hashanah, Tashlich, Yom Kippur, Sukkot (with a Snack in the Shack), Shemini Atzeret, Simchat Torah, Hanukkah, Tu B’Shevat, Purim (with an original Purim Spiel and carnival), Pesach (including a 2nd night seder), Lag B’Omer, a communal Yom Ha’atzmaut, Shavuot (starting with Tikum L’Eil Shavuot), and Tisha B’Av.  Children and visitors are always welcome, and we hold special children’s services throughout the year.

We would like to welcome you to our family–please phone our administrator, Dennis Miller, or just come visit our services!
